Skylark and Meadow Pipit Print E-mail

click here for larger imageSkylark (Alauda arvensis) and Meadow Pipit (Anthus pratensis) are regular summer inhabitants of the Clwydian Range and Llantysilio mountains and are commonly seen, especially on warm spring and summer days.

Skylarks are ground nesting and walk rather than hop. They are more often heard rather than seen, giving a loud, clear and very rapid warbling song in flight, often being too high to be seen. The song flight can last up to 5 minutes.

Meadow Pipits are also ground nesting. They have an accelerating song with a trill which is sung during a parachuting decent after an upward flight from the ground.
