Armour, Artefacts and Action! by Samantha Print E-mail

knightThe event at Ruthin Goal marks the last in the series of events held over the Festival of British Archaeology. The fortnight had been a great success and the events have helped to showcase the diverse history of the area.

The event at the Old Gaol was titled 'Armour, Artefacts and Action' and saw the Heather and Hillforts team of Sam and Erin joined by Sarah Pevely the Community Archaeologist for north east Wales, a group of re-enactors and Dave and Kathy from Ancient Arts.

Thankfully the weather was nice and sunny and a steady stream of visitors came to touch and learn about objects from the past. People were able to grind corn on an authentic quern to make flour, have a go at making an authentic nettle bracelet or some bramble rope! Handle Iron Age, Roman and Saxon swords and even have a guess at our mystery item - a Roman razor!
