The weather gods are against us again today! It’s windy and raining hard. However 30 eager people turn up to see the excavation so we make our way up the hill battling through the elements only to find Ian and Sophie huddled in the ramparts under a make shift tent comprising of a piece of tarpaulin and some ranging rods to get some shelter from the weather and have a hard earned cuppa.

Ian left the tent and gave the group a chat about the excavation. We left so they could crack on and try to get some shelter ourselves from the elements. Sophie is digging at the edge to see if she can find the extent of the mound and Ian is busy recording what they have already uncovered so that they can dig it up.web_pic1

The weather clears for a while but in the afternoon when I begin to take the Denbighshire branch of the young archaeologists club the heavens open again. But this doesn’t dampen spirits too much and the children enjoy helping Ian with a picture showing the height of the ramparts.
