Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) can be seen in areas of deep vegetation on the lower slopes of moorlands, particularly amongst bracken, gorse and in hedgerows. The male bird is most colourful, with a bright yellow head and underparts. The males song is distinctive and is said to sound like "a little bit of bread and no cheese". It is a small bird which grows up to 17cm long.
