Just when you think the weather couldn’t get worse, it’s cloudy, showery and the wind is even stronger. However this hasn’t stopped Ian and Sophie who wrapped themselves up and got back to work cleaning up the site.

In the morning Rhun from the Countryside Service and I brought up 21 children from Ysgol Pen Barras to see the excavation. They have been studying the Celts in school and had a lot of questions to ask about the hillfort and what the archaeologists had found.

After a quick visit to the excavation trench the children and archaeologists nestled between the banks out of the wind to learn more about the site. Ian showed them some their finds – some inscribed stones with names on from the walkers cairn they had to dismantle to get down to the soil.

Although it is early days Ian is hopeful as they are coming across a lot of buried stone which may be the burial mound – burial mounds are made out of earth and stone. It is early days though and more digging is needed.
