The day of overcast again. The day is spent digging further. Soil samples are taken in case no dating evidence is found as there is evidence of charcoal which could be radio carbon dated. Samples are also taken of the black layer found yesterday as this could contain pollen which could tell us about the climate and the vegetation when the mound was made. A heavy rain cloud comes over at lunchtime and so it’s another dash under the make shift tent.

But the afternoon sees the final guided walk to the site and the sun comes out!

By the end of the day the robber trench has been excavated and at the bottom there is a rectangle cut into the square. This along with large stones extracted from the backfill of the robber trench suggests that this was where a burial was, although the robbers have taken everything.
