It’s the final day of the excavation and it is spent finishing recording the site and cleaning up the trench for its final photographs. So after 2 weeks of the digging what is the conclusion? Although there has been no dating evidence the archaeologists are happy that the mound is a Bronze Age burial mound dating back around 3,500 years. They have come to this conclusion through how the mound was constructed but also what they found. The robber trench as taken away all evidence of the burial but the rectangular shape cut into the bedrock is good evidence it was there once. Unfortunately for us they were really good and took everything away rather than looking simply for treasure. CPAT will now be writing a report so keep a look out in the Penycloddiau dig in deeper section for it once it is completed.
